It is one thing to get a very cheap auto insurance rate and another thing to maintain a very low premium for a reasonable length of time. There are a lot of things you can do if you want to maintain a low rate for years to come. At the same time, there are things that will make your premium jump through the roof.
One that has that capacity is allow driver distractions. Distractions are some of the leading causes of fatalities on our roads. Since they are very important to road safety and keeping your driving record clean, we will look at the various activities that lead to distraction behind wheels and what you should to to avoid them…
i. In the mad rush to do so much is very little time, people get to sleep very late and so wake up late but have to get to their various places of work on time. In order to do everything they should and NOT be late for work, a lot of folks multi-task taking their breakfast and driving.
Ordinarily, multitasking isn’t a bad thing. However, when it comes to driving, it’s a very bad thing. Let’s say you are taking hot coffee while driving: All it takes for you to be in serious trouble is for your hot coffee to spill for any reason while you are driving at top speed. You know what will happen: Your reflexes will kick in and what would be the story if this happens while a kid is going through a zebra crossing or when the traffic light just turns red?
ii. Another thing that could lead to serious distractions is watching billboards while driving. It’s ok to watch and enjoy those interesting billboards if you are just a passenger. But if you are saddled with the responsibility of manning the wheels, you should be very careful NOT to be carried away with any billboard. Remember, you can’t focus on a billboard and the road simultaneously.
iii. Of all bad things folks do while driving, I think NONE has the capacity of causing serious accidents as much as texting while driving. If you have a very urgent message to read or send, look for a good spot, clear and then text. You can’t type your text message and still have the right level of concentration on the road. You can easily tell that a driver is texting by the zigzag movements they keep making.
Everything might be all well and good if you are on a lonely road (That is, if you don’t end up in a ditch). However, you are courting a serious accident if you are on a relatively busy road.
